Epistemics for Artists, 2024; lecture-performance presented at the Portland Institute for Contemporary Art; 50 mins.

Originally commissioned for the 2024 Oregon Contemporary Artists’ Biennial, Epistemics for Artists enmeshes facts, figures, memes, and clichés about the arts with key theories from psychology, philosophy, and linguistics to unpack the concept of being “epistemically adrift” — a term originally coined for mood disorders that can be used to illuminate how artists have become alienated from the fruits of their own labor. Based on current research on the effects of artistic production, Epistemics invites the audience to consider the relationship between artist, community, and city. This lecture-performance was also presented twice in 2025 at Oregon Center for Contemporary Art.
